Heating repairs & servicing across Melbourne

From a ducted gas system that won't ignite to a hydronic loop that never quite warms the back rooms, our technicians diagnose the real cause and fix it properly.

Introduction

Heating specialists in Melbourne

Melbourne winters are unforgiving on heating equipment. Systems that sat idle through summer are suddenly asked to run for months, and the weak points — ignition components, fan bearings, dirty filters, tired thermostats — show up in the first genuine cold snap.

RapidFix Solutions services every common residential heating type used across the northern and western suburbs, along with light commercial installations. We diagnose the fault, explain what failed and why, and give you an honest repair-or-replace recommendation based on the age and condition of the unit.

What we do

  • Breakdown repairs on ducted gas, wall furnace, hydronic and reverse cycle heating
  • Annual heater servicing, safety checks and carbon monoxide testing
  • Thermostat and controller diagnostics, replacement and programming

Every heating service we offer

What each service covers, the faults we see most often, and what you get out of it.

Ducted Gas Heating

Full diagnostics and repair of ducted gas systems — burner assembly, ignition, fan motor, ductwork and zoning. We test airflow at the outlets, not just at the unit.

Common faults

  • Unit ignites then locks out after a few minutes
  • Warm air in some rooms, nothing in others
  • Loud rumbling or high-pitched fan noise

Even, efficient heat through the whole house and lower gas usage.

Wall Furnaces

Servicing and repair of console and wall-mounted furnaces, including pilot assemblies, thermocouples, gas valves and flue integrity checks.

Common faults

  • Pilot light won't stay lit
  • Yellow, lazy flame
  • Burning smell on start-up

Safe, reliable heat from an older unit without a full replacement.

Hydronic Heating

Boiler diagnostics, circulator pump repairs, panel bleeding, zone valve replacement and system balancing for hydronic installations.

Common faults

  • Cold panels at the end of the run
  • Pump noise or seized circulator
  • Pressure dropping repeatedly

Quiet, even radiant warmth with balanced flow to every room.

Gas Log Fires

Cleaning, burner adjustment, glass seal replacement, remote and ignition repairs for both inbuilt and freestanding gas log fires.

Common faults

  • Sooty glass
  • Remote not pairing
  • Fire cuts out after 20 minutes

A clean flame picture and safe operation through the whole season.

Reverse Cycle Heating

Heat pump diagnostics for split and ducted reverse cycle systems, including refrigerant charge, defrost cycle and outdoor unit performance in cold weather.

Common faults

  • Blowing cool air in heat mode
  • Outdoor unit icing over
  • System short cycling

Efficient winter heating at a fraction of the running cost of gas.

Space Heaters

Repairs and safety checks for portable and fixed gas and electric space heaters, including element, fan and safety switch replacement.

Common faults

  • Tip-over switch faults
  • Element not glowing
  • Fan running without heat

Safe supplementary heat for the rooms that need a boost.

Thermostat Repairs

Fault-finding on wall controllers, smart thermostats and zone controllers, including calibration, wiring faults and replacement.

Common faults

  • Room never reaches set temperature
  • Blank or flickering display
  • Zones not responding

Accurate temperature control and noticeably lower running costs.

Heating Maintenance

A structured pre-winter service: burner clean, filter replacement, gas pressure test, electrical check, CO test and airflow measurement.

Common faults

  • Unit not serviced in 2+ years
  • Rising gas bills
  • Dust smell when heating starts

Fewer breakdowns, safer operation and a longer equipment life.

Heating Installations

Supply and installation of replacement heaters, correctly sized for the home, with compliant flueing, ductwork and commissioning.

Common faults

  • Existing unit beyond economical repair
  • Undersized for the home
  • Non-compliant older install

A properly sized modern system with a manufacturer warranty.

Heating Diagnostics

Where another trade has failed to find the fault, we run full electrical, gas and airflow diagnostics and provide a written condition report.

Common faults

  • Intermittent faults nobody can reproduce
  • Repeated lockout codes
  • Insurance or sale reports

A clear, evidence-based answer instead of guesswork parts swapping.

Common problems

Symptoms and what usually causes them

Heater blows cold air
Failed ignition, gas valve fault or a tripped overheat sensor.
Repeated lockouts
Restricted airflow, blocked filters or a cracked heat exchanger.
Burning or gas smell
Dust burn-off is normal on first use; a gas smell never is — shut it off and call us.
Rooms heat unevenly
Collapsed or disconnected ducting, closed dampers or a failing zone motor.
Noisy operation
Worn fan bearings, loose blower wheel or debris in the cabinet.
Rising gas bills
Poor combustion tuning, leaking ducts or a thermostat reading incorrectly.
Preventative maintenance

Keep it running, avoid the callout

  • Service gas heating annually, ideally in autumn before the first cold week
  • Replace or wash return-air filters every three months during winter
  • Keep the outdoor unit and flue terminal clear of plants and stored items
  • Have a carbon monoxide test performed on any gas heater over five years old
  • Bleed hydronic panels at the start of each season

Why choose RapidFix Solutions

Licensed, insured local technicians who quote before they work, carry common parts on the van and explain exactly what failed. We service Melbourne homes and businesses six days a week, with emergency attendance available after hours.

Our process

How a RapidFix job runs

01

Book & triage

Tell us the brand, symptoms and address. We ask the right questions up front so the correct parts are on the van.

02

On-site diagnosis

A full electrical, mechanical and performance check — not just the obvious fault. You get a plain-English explanation.

03

Approved repair

We quote before we work. Nothing is replaced without your say-so, and we use manufacturer-approved components.

04

Test & handover

Performance tested, readings recorded, work area cleaned, and maintenance advice so the same fault doesn't return.

Residential services

Homes across Melbourne's north and west rely on ducted gas and wall furnaces. We work around your household — protective coverings down, roof-space work done carefully, and a full explanation of the safety checks we performed before we leave.

Commercial services

We also maintain heating for offices, childcare centres, clubs and retail spaces, with scheduled servicing, compliance documentation and out-of-hours attendance so your operation isn't interrupted.

What our customers say

Trusted by Melbourne households and businesses

Reviews collected from customers across the northern, western and eastern suburbs.

5.0 average from Google reviews

Our ducted heater dropped out on the coldest week of the year. RapidFix came the next morning, found a failed ignition probe and had the house warm again before lunch.
Daniel M.Pascoe Vale
Two split systems serviced and one re-gassed. Clear pricing up front, drop sheets down, and they showed me the pressure readings before and after.
Priya S.Brunswick
Our under-bench fridge failed on a Saturday. They talked us through keeping stock cold, arrived within a few hours and replaced the condenser fan on the spot.
Marco D.Coburg
Washing machine wouldn't drain. Honest advice — a pump repair instead of pushing us into a new machine. That's why we keep their number.

FAQs

Heating questions we're asked most

How often should a gas heater be serviced?

Every two years as a minimum, and annually for units over ten years old or in rental properties. An annual service also includes a carbon monoxide test, which we strongly recommend for every gas appliance.

Is it worth repairing an older ducted heater?

If the heat exchanger is sound and parts are still available, a repair usually makes sense. Once a unit passes about 15 years with a failing exchanger, replacement is the safer and cheaper option over time. We give you the numbers for both.

Do you carry common heating parts?

Our vans stock igniters, thermocouples, gas valves, capacitors, fan motors and filters for the major Australian brands, so most repairs are completed on the first visit.

Can you service my heater in winter at short notice?

Yes. Winter is our busiest period, but we hold emergency slots each day for no-heat callouts, prioritising elderly residents and families with young children.
