The five faults we attend most often, what they usually mean, and which ones you can safely check yourself.
Fridge warm but freezer cold
This classic symptom usually means air isn't moving from the freezer to the fridge compartment: a failed evaporator fan motor, an iced-over evaporator or a stuck damper. It's rarely the compressor, and it's usually an economical repair.
Ice building up at the back panel
A defrost system fault — heater element, defrost thermostat or timer/control board. Left alone, the ice eventually blocks airflow completely and the fridge section warms up.
Water pooling in the crisper
Almost always a blocked defrost drain. Meltwater backs up in the cabinet instead of draining to the tray above the compressor. Clearing the drain resolves it.
Running constantly
Check the door seals with a sheet of paper: if it pulls out easily, the gasket needs replacing. Beyond that, a dusty condenser coil or a refrigerant issue is likely. Vacuuming the coils twice a year prevents a surprising number of callouts.
